    Description

A group of three autographs by Union officers.  1) Silas Casey with his rank of Brig. Genl Vol. 3 x 2.5 clip from a letter pasted down to a larger sheet about 5 x 3.   Casey would rise to the rank of Major General by brevet.  Despite shouldering some blame for the defeat at the Battle of Seven Pines he wrote several highly regarded books on infantry tactics.  2) “Theodore Bailey USN” on a slip measuring approximately 5 x 2.5 Bailey began his naval career in the Mexican-American War and ended with the rank of Rear Admiral after the war. Most of his war service involved blockade work in the Florida Gulf and Mississippi Delta.   3) Romeyn Beck Ayres irregular cut measuring about 4.75 x 1.75 with a bold “R.B. Ayres U.S. Army”.  He rose to the rank of Brig. General and then Maj. General by brevet.  He saw action as an artillery commander at the first Bull Run, various engagements during the Peninsula Campaign and then at Gettysburg as a brigade commander of infantry.
