    A rare original and historic printed and manuscript completed ticket for the WASHINGTON CITY CANAL LOTTERY, held in 1796 to raise funds to cut a canal through the newly created District of Columbia to connect Tiber Creek with the Potomac River. The plan was unsuccessful. This lottery ticket was signed by DANIEL CARROLL of Dudington [1764-1849], whose family were the original proprietors of the land donated to create the City of Washington.
